Most state Journeyman exams have 80–100 questions covering NEC code, wiring methods, branch circuits, motor controls, and load calculations.

Most states require a 70–75% passing score. This practice test uses the same 70% pass threshold so you know where you stand.

Questions are written to the 2023 NEC. Check your state licensing board to confirm which edition your state has adopted.

This test covers high-voltage clearances, AC circuit theory, and NEC calculations. Key facts: For equipment rated above 600V with live parts on both sides of the work space, the minimum clearance is 5 feet (NEC Table 110.34, Condition 3). Type AC cable is NOT allowed in damp or wet locations (NEC 320.12). Capacitive reactance XC = 1/(2πfC) — when frequency doubles, XC is HALVED (not doubled). Power factor is a dimensionless ratio (no unit) equal to cos θ. For transformer turns ratio 10:4 with 120V secondary: primary = 120 × 10/4 = 300V.
