1. Overview
Electrician Practice Tests ("we", "our", "us") operates electricianpracticetests.com. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
2. Information We Collect
a) Information you provide voluntarily
- Email address & name — if you subscribe to new-test notifications via the footer form.
- Name, email, and comment text — if you submit a review on a quiz page. Email is optional and never publicly displayed.
- Account credentials — if you create an optional account (email + password).
- Challenge a friend — your first name and email (both optional), and the first names and email addresses of friends you choose to invite. See section 5.
b) Information collected automatically
- IP address and browser type — stored with quiz attempts, comments, site-activity logs and share/challenge activity. Used to prevent spam and abuse (for example, limiting how many challenge emails one connection can send) and to understand how the site is used.
- Share activity — when you press a share button we record which button, which test and when (not what you post). When someone opens a shared link we record that visit. This powers the "Shared N times" counts on tests.
- Browser local storage — we store your quiz progress and visited-quiz list in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account.
- Google Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google AdSense — if ads are displayed, Google may set cookies to personalise ads. See Google's ad policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To send new-test email alerts (subscribers only — unsubscribe any time).
- To display approved reviews on quiz pages.
- To prevent spam and abuse on comment submissions and challenge emails.
- To run "Challenge a friend": send the invites you ask for, tell you when friends finish (if you ask), and send rewards you earn.
- To improve our content and understand which tests are most used (analytics).
4. Email Subscriptions
If you subscribe to email alerts, your email is stored securely and used only to notify you when new practice tests are added. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. We do not sell or rent email addresses to third parties.
5. Sharing and "Challenge a Friend"
- Share buttons open the social network or app you choose (WhatsApp, Facebook, X, LinkedIn and others). We don't connect to your social accounts or see what you post. Your score card image is made in your browser and is only shared if you choose to.
- Friends you invite by email get one email with your first name, your score and a link. We don't add them to any mailing list. They only hear from us again if they take the test and ask for something (for example, a cheat sheet). Each address can be invited at most once a week, and every email has a link to stop all emails from us.
- Your challenge — if you give your email and ask to be notified, we email you when a friend finishes, with their first name and score, and send any rewards you earn.
- Leaderboards at a challenge link show first names (if given) and scores of people who took that challenge. They are not listed in search engines.
- A cookie remembers for 30 days that you arrived through a challenge link, so a signup can be credited to that challenge.
6. Cookies
We use minimal cookies: a session cookie for optional account logins, a 30-day cookie when you open a challenge link, and cookies set by Google Analytics and Google AdSense (if applicable). You can disable cookies in your browser settings; quiz functionality will still work as progress is stored in localStorage.
7. Data Retention
- Subscriber emails — retained until you unsubscribe.
- Approved reviews — retained until deleted by our moderators.
- Share and challenge data (names, emails, IP addresses, share and visit records) — deleted automatically after 12 months.
- "Stop all emails" requests — the address is kept on a do-not-email list so we can keep honouring the request.
8. Third-Party Services
We use Bootstrap and jQuery from CDNs (jsdelivr.net, code.jquery.com). These providers may log your IP address as part of normal CDN operation.
9. Children's Privacy
This site is intended for adults preparing for professional licensing exams. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
10. Your Rights
You may request deletion of your email subscription, any comment you submitted, or your challenge and share data by contacting us. We will action the request within 30 days. You can stop all emails from us at any time with the link at the bottom of any email.
