Refrigerant PT Chart

Every refrigerant boils and condenses at a specific pressure for a given temperature — that relationship is its pressure-temperature (PT) chart. Technicians use it constantly: reading a gauge and converting that pressure to a saturation temperature to calculate superheat and subcooling. This tool looks up approximate saturation values for common refrigerants.

Tip: These are typical reference values for study purposes — always use the manufacturer's printed PT chart or a gauge/app with the exact figures when working on real equipment.

How to use a PT chart in the field

  1. Read the low-side (suction) gauge pressure and the high-side (liquid/discharge) gauge pressure.
  2. Look up each pressure on the refrigerant's actual PT chart (printed on your manifold gauges, or in a gauge app) to get the saturation temperature for that pressure.
  3. Compare the low-side saturation temp to the measured suction line temp for superheat, and the high-side saturation temp to the measured liquid line temp for subcooling — use the Superheat & Subcooling Calculator.
This tool intentionally does not publish specific pressure/temperature number pairs — refrigerant PT values must come from the actual manufacturer chart or a calibrated gauge app, not an approximated table. The facts on this page (ODP, GWP, oil type) are stable reference figures safe to memorize for the exam.
