NEC Reference: NEC 220.14
Free online commercial load calculation practice test based on the NEC. 25 basic electrical questions on receptacle loads, demand factors, electric ranges, continuous loads, feeder and service sizing. Good for electrician exam prep.
Commercial load calculations use the National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 220 to turn a list of connected equipment into a realistic service or feeder size. Two ideas make this easier: a unit load tells you how many VA to count for a standard outlet or fixture (for example, 180 VA per general-use receptacle outlet), and a demand factor reduces the connected total because not everything runs at full power at the same time. Continuous loads (running 3 hours or more) must be sized at 125% for conductors and overcurrent devices, per NEC 210.19 and 215.2.
