Note 1:
Every motor which is rated more than 1 HP and used in contentious duty applications shall be protected by overload protection. The following are the protection settings as per the NEC code.
- 125% of FLC ( If service factor is greater then 1.15)
- 125% of FLC ( If the temperature rise does not exceed 40 C)
- 115 % of FLC (For all other motors)
Note 2:
If the overload settings is not sufficient to start the motor, then a higher setting is allowed to use as per NEC 430.32(C). The higher settings are as follows:
- 140% of FLC ( If service factor is greater then 1.15)
- 140% of FLC ( If the temperature rise does not exceed 40 C)
- 130 % of FLC (For all other motors)
